Location
Yoder’s is 100% my favorite breakfast spot in eastern North Carolina. The business identifies itself as a “small-town bakery and restaurant”; however, they are so much more! Much like Rubirosa in New York City, the crowd outside says it all.
Ambience
Whether you are seated at the restaurant or walking around the property, there is a warm, wholesome, and welcoming feel to the experience. You can find a bustling general store full of home and garden supplies attached to the restaurant that is full of homemade furniture and goods. It’s truly a wonder how many items they carry! The seating area is quite compact, but still very cozy. Each time I have visited, there is generally a wait. Customers, myself included, either sit outside and enjoy the good NC weather, walk around the property and talk to the chickens, or look at the fun new knick-knacks in the store while we wait for our buzzer to ding.
Service
There is definitely a spirit of country hospitality at this establishment. The staff is always friendly and asking how they can help, or just saying hello. Their estimates on wait times are always spot on, and their hosts are very efficient. Once you are at the table, servers are quick to greet you and take beverage orders. They know the menu very well and are always willing to check with the kitchen staff for any questions. This is especially important for me with a gluten allergy. I’ve always appreciated that while the dining room looks busy from afar, the atmosphere completely changes once you’re seated. You never feel rushed. Instead, it feels as if they cleared a special spot in their home kitchen just for you.
Menu Variety
The menu has everything you need for a traditional American Southern breakfast, including, but not limited to, platters, biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches, French toast, and pancakes. They also offer limited lunch items and desserts, as well as gluten-free bread for French toast!
Presentation
The food features a simple presentation served on classic, diner-style dishes.
Food
Simply mouthwatering. I ordered the Dutch Breakfast with one slice of gluten-free French toast, Dutch potato casserole, and a sausage link (pictured above). The gluten-free French toast was comparable in size to the regular French toast (which also looks heavenly), was perfectly cooked, and was served with powdered sugar and a big dollop of whipped butter. Their specialty sauce is a homemade butter syrup, it’s divine, and I poured half of that and half of regular syrup on my French toast. My boyfriend ordered the Dutch Breakfast with bacon, pancakes, over-medium eggs, shredded potatoes, a side of bacon, and a side of toast. Everything was phenomenal!
No alcohol is served at this establishment.
